The Dialogue Between Traditional and Modern

Fabio Carvalho searched for the oldest heritage rhythms of the state of Espirito Santo, those with African roots music, and he puts the ‘Congo’ and ‘Ticumbi’ to talk to the beats of electronic music The result isa precious and danceful dialogue of traditional folk art with contemporary, very current fruit of cultural anthropophagy that marked the birth of Brazilian modernism.

'Solte Os Cabelos' is a traditional Congo Public Domain song from Espírito Santo as the main source, which was first recorded by Fabio with his ex-group Manimal on the album 'Tow Tow' in 2000, but in 2015 together with producers Marcel Dadalto and Léo Caetano, and the collaboration of  Cid Travaglia from NAPALMA adding beats and furious solos on Djembé over the "Congo" beats, transformed it into a Worldbeat version for the album 'Quintal - Afro Congo Beat'.

LONA Musik, Berlin record label brings to light the artistic value of Fabio Carvalho, releasing the EP 'Solte Os Cabelos' – Feat: Cid Travaglia, containing OriginalMix remastered + Instrumental Mix + four Remixes, produced by talented producers, FurmigaDub (Brazil), SucreSoul (South Africa), Gutto Serta (Brazil / Berlin), Leandro Bonfim (Brazil), bringing new versions, innovative sounds in the dialogue between the traditional and the contemporary, which promises to invade clubs, radios and parties around the world.

FURMIGADUB

BRAZIL

I heard this song many years ago with the band Manimal, which Fabio Carvalho was part of.

The intention is to bring a sense of transformation to ‘Solte os Cabelos’, I tried to emphasize the percussions and implement some low end elements and wanted to mix some psychedelic textures, delay effects and synthesizers and make it very dancing, but also with moments of a nostalgic atmosphere with vintage pads and a break in the beat. Basically, this is what I do in my work, mixing elements of regional music, in this case percussion with the beats of Congo Capixaba, with elements of Electronic Music such as Techno, Dub, Dubstep.

SUCRESOUL

SOUTH AFRICA

I have had opportunities in my life to work on different remixes across the world. ‘Solte Os Cabelos’ was one of the exciting songs with its heavily laced vocals. I must say it gave me a serious challenge but I loved every single bit of it.

Initially, I did not know how to remix such a beauty, I started with a deep house version and felt that I did not do justice and later heard a guitar and beautifully played percussions in the song stems and that was the highlight for me and sparked ideas to take it to the Afro Tech slowed tempo version of 108 BPM as an original speed.

LEANDRO BONFIM

BRAZIL

I made a Remix using the technique of Dub, electronic music genre that arose from reggae in the late 1960s. The style predominantly consists of partially or completely instrumental remixes of existing recordings, manipulating and remodeling the recordings and emphasizing the rhythm session (bass, drums and percussion) as well as echo and reverb effects.

GUTTO SERTA

BRAZIL/ BERLIN

Gutto Serta's new Remix push his trademark sound combining guitar strings with classic techno acid synths. Groovy, straight forward drums and arpeggiating keys come together to Brazilian vocals and percussion of the original version.

Solte os Cabelos Acid Remix’ makes an interesting sonic experience for dance music lovers.
